An OLLI at FAU Lecture Series in the Vintage Gym
The Future of Our Governance:
In recent years, the U.S. Supreme Court has rapidly overturned long-standing precedents, enabling states to enact laws once deemed unconstitutional—on issues like gun rights, abortion, and federal agency authority. Pending decisions may further weaken the separation of Church and State and threaten the balance of power among government branches. Could we be witnessing a shift in Constitutional oversight from the judiciary to the executive? Join us for a timely discussion on how these changes may shape the future of American democracy.
Speaker: Irving Labovitz, J.D., is an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University who teaches courses on U.S. Supreme Court decisions, drawing on a distinguished legal career that includes roles as an Air Force prosecutor, FTC attorney, and FDIC contract counsel. A graduate of Boston University School of Law and member of multiple bars including the U.S. Supreme Court, he has authored legal scholarship, lectured nationally, and served as both law firm co-chair and corporate general counsel.
