An OLLI at FAU Lecture Series in the Vintage Gym
Gardening Homegrown Produce in South Florida:
Learn to grow your own delicious, nutrient-rich food during South Florida’s Fall and Winter seasons! This beginner-friendly course covers everything you need to get started—soil basics, growing in containers, raised beds, or in-ground, seasonal planting tips, and where to find supplies. Most store-bought produce travels long distances and loses nutrients along the way. Discover the joy of harvesting truly fresh vegetables right from your own garden. This lecture-style course includes helpful handouts to guide your journey. Taught by the co-founder and director of the Swinton Community Growing Project—an organic community garden and food forest thriving for over 16 years—this course will inspire you to grow healthier food, connect with nature, and enjoy the unmatched flavor of homegrown produce.
Speaker: Michiko Kurisu, a landscape designer and professional photographer, brings over two decades of experience creating therapeutic Japanese gardens to her work in sustainable gardening. Drawing on her background in environmental science and design, she now shares her expertise through lectures helping others connect with nature through mindful, productive gardening.
