DBHS Heritage Lecture: Lake Worth Lagoon
The Delray Beach Historical Society is excited to present a series of lectures aimed at preserving the city's archives and historic sites, educating the community about Delray's rich heritage, and fostering public interest in the area's past.
This special presentation will be showcased by Kylie Ariotti, Environmental Analyst with Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management.
Discover the fascinating story of the Lake Worth Lagoon, Palm Beach County’s largest estuary and one of our most important natural resources. Stretching 20 miles from North Palm Beach to Ocean Ridge, the Lagoon is home to a rich variety of marine life.It’s where ocean waters meet freshwater flowing from three major canals that drain more than 350,000 acres of land. More than just a beautiful waterway, the Lagoon plays a vital role in our community; supporting tourism and recreation, providing essential habitat, and serving as a cornerstone of our region’s ecosystem and identity.
Together, we’ll explore how the Lagoon has changed over time, why its restoration is critical, and how each of us is connected to protecting this treasured local resource.
